More and more electric vehicles (EVs) are appearing on the roads of Woodstock, Kennesaw, Carterville, Smyrna, and Atlanta, and anyone looking to dip their toe into the world of EVs for the first time would be well-advised to check out the sensational 2024 Kia Niro EV. There’s never been a gas-only Niro, so this compact crossover SUV has focused on electrified mobility since day one. The 2024 Niro EV is a natural progression of impressive improvement as the nameplate continues its second generation.
The 2024 Kia Niro EV is available in two trim levels. But if you think that inevitably means different battery sizes, different ranges, and vastly different MSRPs, you can relax because that isn’t the case. The all-new second-generation 2024 Niro EV comes in the imaginatively named Wind and Wave trim levels. Both models get the same powertrain, so your decision will rest on what additional features you want.
Something else that both models share is their stunning styling that adds a touch of class and a more premium feel to this impressive compact EV crossover. One of the first features you’ll notice is the striking silver or black boomerang body panel that Kia calls an air blade, which extends from the roof to the rear wheels. The new Niro EV is an attractive design that fits right in with other recently restyled Kia models and doesn’t look polarizing in any way.
The 2024 Kia Niro EV makes a strong case for itself as it’s the fastest, quietest, and most efficient model in the Niro family and should account for at least 25 percent of all Niro sales going forward. The electric motor and battery provide the 2024 Niro EV with 201 horsepower and 188 lb.-ft. of torque, and Wind and Wave trim levels both get the same 64.8 kWh battery. The charging port conforms to the SAE J1772 and Combined Charging System (CCS) standards, which cover you for recharging with the vast majority of commonly available charging networks. When a DC fast charger is available, you can recharge the Niro battery to 80% of its capacity in approximately 43 minutes. The EPA-estimated MPGe is a combined 113 MPGe, and the estimated range on a full charge of the battery is 253 miles.
It’s possible to debate if the 2024 Kia Niro EV is a crossover or more of a tall hatch, but there’s no disputing the impressive 39.8 inches of legroom those sitting in the rear seats will definitely appreciate. In fact, the second-row legroom in the Niro EV is now more than you find in the second rows of many three-row crossovers. The cargo volume behind the 60/40 split rear seats is also more generous this year, with 22.8 cu.-ft., compared to the 19.4 cu.-ft. of the previous model.
Standard base model features include dual-zone climate control, a power tailgate, roof rails, heated front seats, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Wave trim adds the likes of a premium Harman Kardon audio system, a Digital Key, perforated SynTex seat trim, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and more.
The 2024 Kia Niro EV is a standout compact crossover SUV in its own right, and its fully-electric powertrain could be seen as a bonus.
